My Story

Benjamin P. Slomowitz is a college student at West Chester University and an aspiring news reporter.

Ben's hometown is Glen Mills, PA. He lived with his family throughout his first 20 years before moving to an apartment in West Chester in August 2021, where he could easily travel to and from the university there.

Because he has partaken in Journalism classes, Ben has excellent writing skills, especially with AP Style. He also has experience with Adobe PhotoShop, the photo-editing program, and Audacity, the audio-editing program, and is proficient with the HTML language as a result of partaking in a web design class.

Ben participates in campus activities within West Chester University, specifically the Jewish youth group Hillel, where he and his friends typically gather every Friday for Shabbat to socialize, which, in Jewish culture, is the "day of rest." He also participates in an autism program called the Dub-C Autism Program, or D-CAP, for short.

When he is not busy finishing up papers or thinking of another juicy news story, he enjoys watching movies, reading books, indulging in the local TV news, and watching game shows and sports on TV.

His K-12 education was a rollercoaster ride causing him to participate in various private schools across the Delaware Valley.

At first, he went with his brother to Concord Elementary School from Kindergarten to Second Grade, before his parents successfully pulled him out of Garnet Valley School District in 2009 due to his disabilities. For the remainder of elementary school and middle school, he attended his first private school, Centreville-Layton, in Wilmington, DE.

By 2015, however, Ben partook high school at another private school, The Concept School, in Westtown, PA. There, for his Eagle Scout Project in 2016, he built five benches, chopped down an invasive species called multi-flora rose, and planted a pine tree in memory of his grandfather, all at the institution's nature preserve. He earned his high school diploma there in 2019.

In 2018, he enrolled at Delaware County Community College through the dual-enrollment program, pursuing an associate degree in Journalism while taking high school classes.

Despite attending virtual classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ben succeeded in his community college courses throughout 2020 and 2021.

In May 2021, Ben received his associate degree in Journalism at Delaware County Community College. Shortly after, he received a diploma from Garnet Valley High School, located in the same district where his education all began.

Ben was a Boy Scout for ten years, beginning in the Wolf rank of Cub Scouts Pack #191 in 2008, and became the 85th Eagle Scout of Troop #260 on March 30th, 2017. A year later, in March 2018, he was inducted into the National Eagle Scout Association for participating in Boy Scout activities, even after achieving the rank. He was later part of the Mark Tucker Chapter of the National Honor Society in June of the same year. In 2020, Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for college students like Phi Beta Kappa, inducted Ben.
